Soul — The original-language terms (Heb., neʹphesh [נֶפֶשׁ]; Gr., psy·kheʹ [ψυχή]) as used in the Scriptures show “soul” to be a person, an animal, or the life that a person or an animal enjoys.
The connotations that the English “soul” commonly carries in the minds of most persons are not in agreement with the meaning of the Hebrew and Greek words as used by the inspired Bible writers. This fact has steadily gained wider acknowledgment. Back in 1897, in the Journal of Biblical Literature (Vol. XVI, p. 30), Professor C. A. Briggs, as a result of detailed analysis of the use of neʹphesh, observed: “Soul in English usage at the present time conveys usually a very different meaning from נפש [neʹphesh] in Hebrew, and it is easy for the incautious reader to misinterpret.”
More recently, when The Jewish Publication Society of America issued a new translation of the Torah, or first five books of the Bible, the editor-in-chief, H. M. Orlinsky of Hebrew Union College, stated that the word “soul” had been virtually eliminated from this translation because, “the Hebrew word in question here is ‘Nefesh.’” He added: “Other translators have interpreted it to mean ‘soul,’ which is completely inaccurate. The Bible does not say we have a soul. ‘Nefesh’ is the person himself, his need for food, the very blood in his veins, his being.”—The New York Times, October 12, 1962.

At the risk of being labeled “sexist”, “racist” or some
other label, I’ve lived a long time(86 years) and pay ZERO attention to labels. Having been a university
administrator/ECONOMICS Professor for 36 years,
some observations about recent campus protests.
1. The honorable ladies but inexperienced, inadequately trained to be a university president in the Ivy League schools needed to view their role more like a CEO ofa major company. Excuse me but universities are in the business of “people development.” Obviously in the IVY LEAGUE that primary function got lost and the campus staff and probably 95+ % of the students RIGHTS TO A SAFE EDUCATIONAL PROCESS were crushed by a small group of PUNK MORONS and some IRRESPONSIBLE, SELF-CENTERED
POLITICAL PIMPS MASQUERADING AS PSUEDO
PROFESSORS. OVERWHELMED, UNPREPARED
ADMINISTRATORS PANICKED. They allowed the few
protesting PUNKS, substantially UNINFORMED about a few thousand years of Middle East history,
to become the university decision- makers. That
mistake was made worse by leaving the campus open to the real HUMAN GARBAGE, terrorist
trained agitators WHO SHOULD BE IN JAIL.
The students so enamored with protesting
should have been expelled for VIOLATING THE RIGHTS OF ALL THE NON-Protesting students.
No classes canceled, no graduation ceremonies
canceled, NO FRIGHTENED OR THREATENED
NON-PROTESTING STUDENTS. If these half-baked
student protestors are more interested in disruptive,
dangerous protesting than learning how to become
responsible adults, then take your protesting OFF
THR CAMPUS and see how law enforcement and adult citizens respond to you. RIGHTS TO PROTEST
